Chinami Chosokabe is part of the Side Cast of in Lessons In Love. She is Chika Chosokabe's younger sister.
Background
Chinami is the youngest daughter of Chiaki Chosokabe and the little sister of Chika Chosokabe. Born with a severe case of asthma and a compromised immune system, she's unable to attend a school or go outside without supervision. It's because of this that she's spent most of her life isolated inside the family apartment. Whenever she is allowed outside, she has to wear a protective mask, clothes that cover up most of her body, and gloves to protect her from germs.
Due to her isolation, she has no friends outside of her big sister and Yumi. She spends the majority of her time watching TV, playing with her sisters and, once she obtains one, using her phone. This separation from most of society has also given her a few misconceptions about the world, not helped by her young age.
Characteristics
Chinami is a very excitable and carefree young girl. Like her older sister, she tends to look on the bright side and believes in the good in everyone. Like most kids, she's also extremely spontaneous and curious, often probing Sensei for information regarding his relationship with Chika, his job as a teacher and the outside world in general.
Contrasting this innocent half is another, more somber part of her. Her most defining trait is her tendency to refer to herself in the third person, but she occasionally breaks this habit, usually when alone with Sensei. She's much smarter than she lets on, often intentionally annoying the older cast members. She also has no qualms with emotionally blackmailing Sensei into doing things for her.
Despite her carefree attitude, it's shown that she hasn't a lot of hope for her future after researching her condition online. She's completely aware of her mortality and already accepted that she'll die sooner rather than later, something she says out loud on occasion. While others, mostly Sensei, try to convince her that she will have a normal life one day, she's pessimistic about her condition or life ever getting better.
Relationships
Sensei
Chinami greatly enjoys Sensei's company, to the point where she wants him to marry Chika and/or Yumi so that he can become a permanent part of her family. As such, she often presses him on how he feels about Chika, pushing him to marry her and refers to him as 'future dad' or 'Papa'. She loves teasing him by testing his patience. In addition, she appreciates that he speaks to her like a 'normal girl' and often confides in him about her sadder thoughts.
Chika
Chika is Chinami's big sister and, as such, she loves her deeply, often wishing that Chika could spend more time with her instead of having to work. Chinami seems to understand the strain her illness puts not only on her sister but on the people around her and has taken it upon herself to keep her sister smiling. It's implied that a majority of Chinami's signature traits are a direct result of these attempts to keep Chika happy.
Yumi
Despite not being related to her, Chinami considers Yumi to be her second older sister. Often, whenever Chika is busy or otherwise unavailable, Yumi babysits her to keep her company. Chinami often has her read manga from her collection and the two play 'business' together. As a result, Chinami feels that Yumi is misunderstood and is truly a good person, she just has a hard time being honest with herself.
Chiaki
Chiaki is Chinami's deceased mom. Not much is known about their relationship, but Chinami is shown to deeply admire her mother's beauty. She often speaks to a photo of her mother as if it were her.
