'Unlike Yumi, Chika is actually quite popular with all of the girls and spends a lot of time getting to know them. Despite her appearance, she's very bright and consistently ranks near the top of the class when she actually applies herself. The big issue is getting her to apply herself since she skips homeroom frequently to use her phone in the bathroom. Chika has a good heart, but is often too caught up in her own world to notice when the one around her is beginning to come undone.'— Sensei's notes
Chika Chosokabe is part of the Main Cast of in Lessons In Love. She is part of the original ten girls in Sensei's class. She lives in Room 1 with Yumi Yamaguchi.
Background
Chika is the eldest daughter of Chiaki Chosokabe, and the older sister to Chinami. Having been abandoned by their father after Chinami's birth and orphaned after the tragic death of their mother, Chika has grown up quicker than most. She works a part-time job in order to feed herself and her little sister, while also maintaining a apartment in the Old District.
At some point, she met Yumi, and the two girls began to take care of Chinami together, creating a surrogate family for the three.
Characteristics
Chika is extremely popular among both the girls in Sensei's class and the various classes around the school. Her sociable and accepting personality allows her to make friends with most people, making her easily the most popular girl among the main cast. The circumstances surrounding her childhood have forced her to mature rapidly, making her one of the most level-headed girls in the class, easily conversating through even the most awkward situations.
Her father's abandonment has left her with a series of trust issues, especially relating to potential relationships. She mentions how she wants to make sure her partner won't leave her with a kid, and presses Sensei on his true feelings towards her before she lets them pursue a deeper relationship. This cautiousness has also created an anxious aspect to her love, frantically fearing any insinuation that Sensei may abandon her. Despite this, she's shown to be deeply romantic and an avid dreamer, picturing a future in a domestic role, planning out dates, and jumping at the idea of being Sensei's girlfriend.
She's a big fan of K-Pop, and pop music in general. In particular, she's a big fan of Niki Nakayama, referring to her as "my queen".
Relationships
Sensei
Due to her inexperience in love, Chika quickly falls for Sensei, flirting with him at every opportunity. This love grows exponentially over the course of the game, with her introducing him to Chinami, telling him about their family situation, inviting him to an onsen, and becoming, in her eyes, his girlfriend. Her possessiveness initially causes a problem for Sensei, as he initially has to tell her to avoid being affectionate in public, and any attempts to create more distance between them often backfire.
Despite these bumps, and Sensei's eventual success at making her more discrete, she still loves him deeply, often driving off any she sees as interested in him.
Chinami
Chinami is Chika's younger sister and was born with an autoimmune disorder. As a result, Chika takes a great deal of caution when dealing with her. She keeps Chinami inside most of the time, only taking her outside when she can monitor her, and usually making sure to avoid large groups of people. Despite the effort she needs to go through, Chika is never bothered by it, and loves her sister dearly, only occasionally annoyed by Chinami's prying or her speaking habits.
Yumi
Chika treats Yumi as part of her family, fiercely standing up for her, and supporting her financially. Her love for Yumi runs deep, even risking personal endangerment to make sure she's okay. Despite Yumi's tendency to cause problems, such as bullying Futaba, and picking fights, and even the times when they annoy each other, Chika's loyalty towards her stands firm.
Rin
Chika and Rin have known each other since Middle School, and though they never hung out a significant amount due to Rin's own shyness, Chika considers the two to be good friends. Their relationship suffers a hitch after Rin's confession attempt, but recovers during Ten Steps Forward, and they're shown to be on good terms afterward, even confiding in each other after Otoha starts to ignore Rin.
